Like it or not, standardized tests are frequently used as an indicator of one's success or failure.  As such, students must develop a bank of test-taking strategies from which they can draw.  Tutor Frisco offers test preparation for the following standardized tests. Programs include test-taking strategies as well as content review.

TAKS
(formerly known as the TAAS)
Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
This test is given to all public school students in the State of Texas beginning in third grade.
Subjects tested depend on the grade level. Some students will be required to pass the TAKS before being promoted to the next grade. High School students must pass all subject tests in order to graduate.

GED (also known as the high-school equivalency exam)
General Education Development
Consists of five subtests: Math, Science, Social Studies, Literature Arts, and Writing.  A brief essay is required as part of the Writing subtest.  Special permission is required by the State of Texas for anyone under the age of 17 wishing to take the test.

ASVAB
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
This test determines if the taker is qualified to enlist in the US military and, if so, which jobs he/she is qualified to perform.  There are ten subtests; the scores of four of these subtests are combined to determine qualification for enlistment.  The remaining six are used to assess potential success in various jobs.

SAT and ACT
College Entrance Exams
These tests, either alone or together, are used by universities to determine a student's aptitude for collegiate success in their chosen field.  The SAT includes critical reading, math, and (new) writing subtests.  The ACT tests math, English, reading, and science.  The writing subtest is optional on the ACT.
