Soon after completing my Bachelor of Science degree (Texas A&M University, December 1993) I accepted a position with a residential, para-military program for at-risk youth. Over the next five years I had the opportunity to serve as Team Leader, GED Instructor, Career Development Advisor, and Life Skills Instructor. Through daily activities, group settings, and one-on-one interaction, the students and I built strong, positive relationships. These connections helped me to help them take steps toward achieving their goals. For many, this meant getting a GED and landing a full-time job. Other students enlisted in the military or enrolled in college. After five years, I left to pursue my Master of Science Degree (University of Houston, May 2001). Upon completion of my graduate degree I returned to the DFW area and settled in Frisco. Soon after beginning work in a corporate environment, I realized that I truly missed working with teenagers. As a result, Tutor Frisco was created in September of 2003. I have completed the coursework to become a certified teacher (University of North Texas) but have not completed the student teaching/internship. Doing so would force me to abandon Tutor Frisco and give up the one-on-one tutoring I dearly love. In addition to my duties as owner and primary tutor for Tutor Frisco, I home school my niece, serve as a writer/editor for Collin County Kids newspaper, and volunteer with various organizations. Resume and References are available upon request; please feel free to ask. Lisa R. Williams |
